STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

One of the most important indicators of a successful percussion program is professional placement.

Our alumni continue to change the landscape of the music business through their performance, research, pedagogy, service to the profession, industry, and outreach.  If your career aspirations align with those of our former students, then we hope you'll apply to join us.

Click on any of the images below for more information on each graduate.

MEET THE STUDIO
Amazing performers.  Gifted teachers.  Terrific people.

The Florida State University College of Music, the third-largest music school in the United States, has consistently been ranked the 12th-best music school in the country (5th-best among state university
music programs) by U.S. News and World Report.

FSU percussionists have gained admission to the most competitive graduate programs in the country, including The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, The Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, The University of Michigan, and The University of Texas.

Our students are regular attendees of the nation's leading summer music festivals, including Music Academy of the West, the Aspen Music Festival and School, the National Orchestral Institute, Chosen Vale, the Chautauqua Institute, and the Eastern Music Festival.

Our Percussion Ensemble has won the PAS International Percussion Ensemble Competition twice (2007, 2011), and their three critically-acclaimed recordings continue to champion new composers and repertoire.

The Percussion Studio is capped at 24 majors (four graduate, twenty undergraduate) in order to provide the best one-on-one experiences and ensemble performance opportunities for our students.

TECHNOLOGY

The recording arts have become part of the FSU Percussion Studio's national identity.  Our students learn how to track, mix, edit and master percussion solo/ensemble recordings and video productions, and many have started their own businesses while at FSU.

We currently utilize pairs of DPA 4006-TL omnis, sE Electronics 4400a LDCs, Earthworks TC-20s, AKG C3000 spots and a full complement of Shure Beta 98, 52 and SM57 drumset mics.

Interfaces include a Motu 896mk3, Presonus 192, and Focusrite Saffires, driving Genelec 8040A nearfields, with Shure wireless transmitters and bodypacks, QSC K-12 tops and 1000w sub, and cameras include two C
anon XF-200 camcorders, GoPro cameras, and a Canon t5i with two three-point light kits (LED and Softboxes) and backdrops.

Students also assist Dr. Parks and Garnet House Productions as producers for numerous recordings with world-class artists, such as Thomas Burritt, Blake Tyson, Omar Carmenates, Andy Harnsberger, Payton MacDonald and many more, as well as the acclaimed FSU Percussion Ensemble recordings Volume One, Volume Two: Not Far From Here, and Volume Three: Ten Windows.
